a random surprise on Stef’s bday

Last min surprise for Stef on her bday at Canopy. The cafe have quite a good ambience. Food wise was average. I heard that their brunch are better, maybe i will go for the brunch e next time. Afterwhich, we headed to 一碗甜品 for desserts. They do serve pretty nice desserts! We ordered durian mousse & mango pomelo if i remember correctly and the durian mousse really tasted like real durian! Their cafe is rather cosy and i like their miniature sets which are display around the cafe! Too bad i didn’t have my camera with me to take down all the cute miniature sets!

finally, a meet up with poly mates.

Finally, a high tea session with my dear gf! Always wanted to have a tea session even before Kieran was born! Remember we said to go cookie museum to have high tea session one day, but that day has yet to come! haHa! Nevertheless, we managed to fork out time now to go for one at Marmalade Pantry. Their price are pretty reasonable at $20/pax with a minimum order for 2 pax. It includes your choice of Gryphon teas, a selection of egg and cress, beef and horseradish and green land shrimp finger sandwiches, buttermilk scones, strawberry preserves and clotted cream and your choice of cupcake. We choose Red Velvet and Chocolate Deluxe for our cupcakes. The cupcakes are delicious and the scones are nice and buttery just that i feel they have included too many scones in the high tea set. Other than the few sandwiches, the rest are all scones! I believe they can do better than that. Ade said their ala carte food tasted way better, i will try it one of these days.

Bry’s bday celebration with his friends

happy birthday my dear!

Antoinette for Bry’s bday. They have a beautiful and grand decor. Bry ordered their breakfast while i ordered e recommended Gnocchi Carbonara. Instead of using e normal pasta, they uses Gnocchi (little dumplings made from potatoes, semolina, flour, or a combination of these ingredients) which i feel it is too starchy to my liking. im glad that bry ordered breakfast coz it comes with croissants too! Oh, I fell in love with their croissants the moment i eat it! It is crispy at e outside, soft and buttery at e inside! It reminds me of Paris! We also ordered ice cream crepe, Chocolicieux. If u like dark chocolate probably u will like this. =)

Ah fu & May Ling’s bday celebration at Fat Fish

Little Pancakes!

I took half-day and met up with Ade for lunch and some shopping. We decided to try Little Pancakes. They have choices of asian, savoury and sweet ones. So we ordered Chick & Cheesy and Going Nutella for You. I preferred the former and she preferred the latter. If im not wrong, all dishes come with 10pcs of little pancakes and a small cup of maple syrup. The pancakes alone have a slight sweetness in it which I feel it taste good even by itself! But of coz, it taste even better with the sausage, cheese, choc or syrup! Yes, it is not filling for the both of us. It should be enough if u have a small appetite, if not, probably u will want to order 3 dishes for 2 persons to share.

my black burger. haha!

Wanted to bring Bry to try the pancakes, but he is afraid that he might not be full. So we headed to Fat Boy’s. It is just across Little Pancakes. I ordered Wimpy and ask to change the sesame bun to honey oat bun instead. I don’t know why is the honey oat in such colour either, but it actually taste not bad!

brunch at Group Therapy!

Yes! My sis and bro-in-law are back in sg! Remember we celebrated mummy’s bday last yr w/o them and in a blink of an eye, they are back with us again! Time flies!

Bry and I were intending to eat ramen, but the queue turned us off. So we had Group Therapy instead! Yes, brunch again! =) They uses thick toast instead of the usual English muffins. I ordered poached eggs and changed the smoked salmon to smoked ham, and it still taste fantastic! I’m so wrong to think that it may not be filling, it was actually quite filling that I almost can’t finish it! Bry ordered their steak and cheese pie, I find it so-so. And I ordered their popular hazelnut (used to be almond) latte. And since, I have been craving for it! hah! I went to Coffee Bean and Starbucks to order their hazelnut latte, but I still like the one at Group Therapy! Maybe because that was my first cup of hazelnut latte that I have had tried outside.

Pre-farewell lunch at La Cantina in Venezia

last pic with Chris in office!

It was my pre-farewell lunch! The restaurant is located at Changi Village hotel which is at the inner side of CV. They have a good view of the sea! By looking at the name, perhaps u should know that they are selling Italian food. I had the recommended Vongole Spaghetti which I like the white wine sauce in it. But i doubt i will probably go all the way there just to eat that again.

The Clan Restaurant

Complimentary welcome drink

Five course meal

The Clan Restaurant is quite a new restaurant whereby it opens early this year. I know i have to try it after hearing good reviews on it despite it being newly start-up. Bry suggested we go on a Saturday noon though I would actually prefer having it for dinner as I thought it would probably be more appropriate or rather romantic to go for this kind of dining in the night. haha! Anyhow, we still go ahead with lunch, and no one say we can’t have it for lunch right?! =P They provide a 5 course meal for lunch which includes Chef’s Starter, Side Dish, Soup, Main and Dessert, and a 6 course meal for dinner which includes another Cold Dish. After we ordered our dishes, they served us a complimentary refreshing drink which i love it! This was definitely an excellent start to the meal! And here’s what we had ordered,

1. Salmon Mousse Cone & Pan seared scallop w truffle asparagus, truffle foam
& Foie gras terrine w cranberry sauce & pistachio cranberry crumbs – these are is fixed on the menu so u don’t have to choose. I like how the scallop was being seared and served with the truffle foam. Foie gras terrine tasted great too.

2. Tempura espuma soft shell crab w homemade sauce, Kurobuta pork belly confit w pork cracker & passion fruit sauce – Comparing this two, the soft shell crab definitely taste better with the homemade sauce while the pork belly wasn’t as fantastic due to it lacking of the crispiness for the pork belly skin.

3. Cèpes mushroom w truffle paste, Crab bisque cappuccino w truffle foam & prawn twister – the mushroom with truffle paste was great! I find it thick and flavoury! As for the Crab bisque cappuccino, both of us find it very sick (腻) of it. We didn’t finish it.

4. Spiced braised lamb shank w potato panko & extra virgin olive powder, Crispy barramundi w herbs salsa, squid ink garlic puree, basil oil & crustacean oil pasta – the lamb shank tasted average to me. For the barramundi, i don’t really like the idea of serving it w/o removing the fish skin. But the accompanying pasta do taste not bad just that i find it a too oily.

5. Chocolate lava w raspberry, Clan signature, chocolate fudge – many will probably preferred the signature, but not for me as I find it too chocolate-y. Chocolate lava was a better choice as it comes with ice cream! And i like it when the melted chocolate flow out once u slice it. It taste fantastic! Just like the dark devotion at TCC, if u have tried before.

Overall experience with the restaurant was pretty much enjoyable as they are actually quite attentive to u and will always welcome your feedback on their food! This is the way to improve the food and business! I will definitely visit it again to try on other dishes and probably on a night time! =)

random meet up

the boss!

We celebrated our 3rd anniversary at Dozo. It is a 7 course dinner which includes Starter, Cold Dish, Side Dish, Soup, Main, Dessert and Drink. On top of the complimentary refreshing drink, they also have free flow of bread sticks! So these are our choices for the 7 course meal,

1. Chef’s Selection of Assorted Platter – this is again fixed on the menu so u don’t have to choose. Once again, I preferred their scallop.

2. King Crab Claw Salad drizzled with Sasame Vinaigrette, Platter of Air Flown Seasonal Sashimi – I like how the crab claw goes well with the sauce and the mango toppings. I don’t eat sashimi, but Bry said it was average.

3. Gratinated Escargots topped with Yuzu Butter, Tempura battered Soft Shell Crab on Mash Potato – This is my first time eating escargot! I thought it was quite disgusted, but it actually didn’t taste that bad! With the buttery taste, it makes it even better!

4. Infusion of Cèpes Mushroom with Truffle, Bacon infused pumpkin Velouté – The truffle was good! It is a pity that only a TINY MINI of it was served. Mushroom soup wise was a little bland and oily. The pumpkin soup was so-so to me since i don’t really like pumpkin.

5. Beef Tenderloin on Pu-Ye and Granite Hot Stone, Baked Atlantic Cod Fillet – I think the beef taste pretty good! I was actually quite looking forward to their cod fillet as many places served barramundi instead. But to my disappointment, I don’t think the sauce goes very well with fillet. To top it off, it was served with 2 pcs of fillet which make it a little too much and 腻.

6. Dozo’s Freshly Baked Warm Chocolate, Espresso Crème Brûlée – Bry said the warm chocolate tasted like any others. I will prefer the original crème brûlée. Anyway, I feel this is a little sweet for me, and the foam on top of it was kind of unnecessary.

7. Dozo’s Mocktail of Love (Refreshing mix of cranberry, orange and pineapple), Iced Mallow Apple Melody (Blend of mallow flowers, apple and guava juice) – The mocktail was so-so, while the apple melody was the best of the day! I love how it was prepared. They uses real red apple cubes, dipped into the guava juice with the blend of mallow flowers. When u eat the apple cubes, u can taste the juiciness with the taste of guava juice! Slurp!

Overall experience at Dozo was a pleasant one. The waiters/waitresses are all very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Knowing it’s our 3rd anniversary, they prepared a plate with wordings and a mini muffin. That’s very sweet of them! They have definitely make it a memorable one. Thanks!

After having try both Dozo and The Clan Restaurant, I feel that The Clan is the successor of Dozo. In my opinion, the food are better considering it was a new restaurant.

Congrats!

Finally is Grace’s wedding! They have the similar animation idea as my sis’s wedd! I’m still thinking if i should do that too for my wedd! haHa! Shall see how since i still have a long way to go! =X Anyway, im happy to see my friends tying knots one after another after knowing them for so long! So here’s my blessing to them, wishing them a happy marriage life and to have a baby soon! =)

I finally finish updating all my happenings except for my travelogue as I want to do it on a different post instead of chucking it all together with these post. =)

Yes, I have found a new job! Initially, I were still a little reluctant to leave my comfort zone for a new job. My ex-colleagues are all very nice and fun-loving people! And of cause not forgetting the benefits are very good too! Just that for future my future career advancement, I have to leave. But so far I’m happy with my new job and hope I have made the right decision to move on from there!

They have very interesting concept for the cafe but we are not allowed to take pictures of e cafe w/o anyone inside e pics, thus all e pics above have us in it. happy birthday dearest!

Had this for Bry’s bday brunch, is actually more of me wanting to try than him. hah! Anyway, it was my first time there. If im not wrong, their signature dishes are English breakfast, Tunisian, and European. So i decided to try their Tunisian (smth like tomato stew) for smth different and bry ordered European. Hmm, maybe im not really a tomato-ey person so i dun actually love e dish.
BUT, u shld try e English breakfast! I ordered that e 2nd time i went and i love it! e ambience was cosy and relaxing too! Definitely a nice place to chillax.

ah boy’s bday dinner.

21st!

congrats Sharon on ur graduation!

My family usually will order ice cream cake or four leaves choco exotic cake for bdays. Coz we dont really like those very creamy cake so we will usually buy among these few choices, but im sick of always eating e same cake! So this yr, i ordered e popular 717 trading durian cake for mummy bday! Hope she will like it!

Twelve Cupcakes

Happy 2nd Anniversary! =)

Melt – The World Cafe

It’s our anniversary! I have been wanting to try the Twelve Cupcakes and so we went to buy and also bought a few home for my family to try. What i like about it, is that it’s not too dry like other cupcakes and also, the presentation! But i still feel it is abit overrated and pricey for such a small cupcake. We then settled our dinner at Melt – The World Cafe at Mandarin Oriental. There are quite a variety of food like seafood, jap food, chinese food, and even indian food. Other than the food, what makes it commendable was the service we received. When Bry called to make the reservation, they did ask whether is it for any special occasion. So he told them it was for our anni but there’s no need for any special arrangement. Halfway through our meal, they surprised both of us by serving us a small cake for our anni. I thought that was pretty thoughtful on their part! Not to mention that they cleared our dirty plates and refilled our water when necessary too. Definitely a restaurant worth visiting again.

brunch at Spruce.

Did i mention that i love having brunch? Or rather breakfast but having it in e noon time, esp when im not a morning person. =X So we went to Spruce on my last bday. Hmm, it wasnt as good as what i had expected. Maybe my expectation was set too high after reading reviews on it. The pancakes lack of fluffiness, and i thot that was e most impt element of doing a good pancake. Main course wise, i ordered Spruce Big Brekkie and it tasted normal to me. Maybe i shld have order e eggs ben instead. I will try that if im there e next time!

i love my bday tart! =)

I ordered Chocolate Banana Tart for my own bday from Fruit Paradise!
my first try was in 2011 when i bought 2 different slice of tarts for bry’s bday. And since, i love it! I love e combination of chocolate and bananas and how they complement each other. im gg to order e same tart for my bday again this yr!

valentine’s treat from David

valentine’s lunch at Equinox

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Equinox was having a 1-for-1 semi-buffet lunch promo, and so we had our pre-valentine’s lunch there! When i say semi-buffet, it means that u can order a main course off e selected items from e menu and e rest are from e buffet spread. They have a spread of sushi, sashimi, pasta, salad, soup, seafood, and of course not to forget e desserts like pastries and ice cream! For those who knows me, should know that i dont usually like cakes/pastries coz i find them too sweet for me. But e pastries at Equinox was really nice I would say. They are rich in flavour yet at e same time not overwhelming.

dept lunch at TCS

I like their truffle fries!

We had our dept lunch at The Coastal Settlement. The place has a concept of e 60s to 80s. They uses things in e older centuries to decorate the whole restaurant. Food wise, i only like e truffle fries. I thought, do they have free supply of salt?? Coz e food that we ate were all very salty! Or is it that we have a bigger grp thus e food quality not really up to standard since there are so much to prepare? But i do heard few of my colleagues commented that e pasta was ok. So maybe e next time u wanna try, u can try those.

I survived!

e pics quality taken from my current camera alr quite =/ so…i guess it’s time for me to change a new one! actually thot of waiting till comex show as i dun think PC show have much camera products. but, i need to buy it before i go overseas!
heard from bf that funan IT mall got an outlet sell quite reasonable price, might be cheaper than IT show! so im going down to take a look this sat! now, dunno whether which model to choose. Samsung EX1 or Panasonic LX5? have been using canon all this while but dun think getting canon this time rd as e comparable canon one to those 2 models is G12. i think G12 is abit bigger than what i wanted, plus i dun really like e design of e cam other than e flip screen. So, i shall stick with e other 2 choices. Let’s see.

Samsung EX1

Panasonic LX5

why i love these? coz they look old school! and of coz i heard that their specs were gd too! i saw a fujifilm one on a pamphlet e other day which is even more classic! but i guess that’s a lil over price or maybe out of my budget. haha! from what i see from review, EX1’s specs actually won the prev vers of LX5 which is LX3, so definitely LX5 is now better as it is the improved vers of e prev.  but the only thing that put me into consideration abt e samsung one still, is coz of e flip screen! i love e flip screen! y cant panasonic implement that into LX5! argh.
guess if were to consider quality of e pic, i will end up choosing LX5.
i shall see what the person recommend on sat! hoho! cant wait to get my hands on e new camera!! =))

e layout of e food trail really makes one reminisce e past. they have those makeshift carts & stalls by e roadside, wooden type of tables & chairs. they uses dinnerwares  that we haven’t seen for quite some time! also, those take aways kopi or etc will be pack in those old condensed milk cans! and not to forget e kid’s all time favourite during my parents’ time, ice balls! they also served many of our local famous dishes! prices wise, some are still reasonable while some are slightly higher.
overall, i think e place is pretty interesting! it makes me feel so homely! haHa!
